Reader’s Question:

This year, our health insurance agent in Boulder Colorado CO advised us that our carrier now provides a PPO plan. In the past, we had an HMO plan. Do you have a recommendation on either of these forms of health insurance?

Robert

Boulder, CO

Hello Robert,

You have an interesting question. Your health insurance agent in Boulder Colorado CO is better qualified to make a recommendation. He will know your group’s health insurance history and be in a good position to help you develop your best option.

Health maintenance organizations or HMO’s are very popular in Boulder Colorado. This organization is usually a network of health care providers who have agreed to provide health care services to their members at pre-arranged prices. These health insurance programs have specified co-pay arrangements that members agree to pay when services are provided. HMO health insurance policies offer many riders including prescription plans. Generally HMO health insurance subscribers in Boulder CO select a primary care physician and all services are refereed through that physician.

Preferred provider organizations, or PPO’s, is a group that contracts services and negotiates agreements for health care services with physicians, hospitals and many other health care providers in Boulder Colorado CO. Again, PPO health insurance subscribers enjoy pre-set pricing and defined co-pays and deductibles. PPO health insurance plans do not require a primary care physician so the enrollee has a bit more flexibility.

Both plans are excellent health insurance opportunities. Good luck working with your agent to get the best coverage for your situation in Colorado CO.

Aurora CO Health Insurance Quote Online

Reader’s Question:

I have been shopping around for health insurance quotes online in Aurora CO but I have never really applied since I am not sure if it is a very good option to purchase my health insurance online than to talk with a real live agent in person. Would be purchasing online as good as purchasing from a live agent in person?

Therese

Aurora, CO

That’s such a good question, Therese.

I am one of the persons who are most comfortable doing transactions online. For me, it is not only convenient way to do business, it can also be very fast and easy. Based on my experience, purchasing your health insurance online is as good as purchasing it from a live person…it can even be better since online transactions can move very fast. Your health insurance policy in Aurora CO can get activated as fast as a day after the transmission day (which means actual payment of the premium, using your credit card online). When you purchase it from a live person, transactions are usually done through mail and most health insurance companies use the USPS to send your documents, which might take time.

The bottom line is that, I am hitting at speed to be the main concern why online transaction is better in purchasing health insurance. But if speed is not an issue for you, I should say, in essence they are the same. You get the same insurance policy whether you get it online or from an insurance agent you get to talk in person. The only difference is that when you talk to a live agent, he/she will have a chance to explain to you the important details of the policy which might not be expressly understood in print.

Colorado CO Health Insurance

Reader’s Question:

What do you mean by policy waivers and exclusions for a health insurance policy in Colorado? Are there any other things in the smaller print that I need to know?

Candice

Aurora, CO

Hello there, Candice!

Most health insurance companies in Colorado develop policies with certain exclusions which are termed as “waivers and exclusions”. These are really statements that the health insurance company will not pay for certain types of accidents or sicknesses. Once you sign a waiver, it now becomes part of the policy. Waivers are put together for the company to exclude a specific illness you have or a previous injury in the past and waivers can be permanent. Waivers can only come off a policy of you and the company agree too remove such waiver.

I will also take this opportunity to inject additional information on most HMO and PPO plans. Most are required to provide a way for you to appeal coverage benefit decisions which you believe are wrong, such as when you think that your claim is incorrectly denied or if you are not treated fairly. The state law requires that health insurance companies should have a plan to administer a process in case of grievances or disputes. That way, health insurance policy holders will have a quick and inexpensive way to resolve disputes. Also, it retains your right to the health insurance company if needed.

Another important concept is that there are some companies that require you to submit a pre-certification of any healthcare service or procedure that you undertake for your to get reimbursed by the health insurance company.
